Top Secret Gluing Techniques Freebie

Do you have a love/hate relationship with white drip glue and kiddos?
I know I do! I love it because it is CHEAP and LASTS way longer than glue sticks and the kids can't lose covers OR forget to put the covers on for that matter.
But, we all hate it simply because kids don't know how to use it...and teaching them has always been so difficult that I used to just give up and go with the easy to use, easy to waster, EXPENSIVE glue sticks...how about you?
I thought there MUST be a better way to do this. There must be a way to get these kiddos familiar with this white, sticky stuff and to get them to use it effectively....
I wrote an "original" song that can easily be sung to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell" and created sheets that students actually practice the new terms they learn: dabbing, globs that take forever to dry, making frames, and dots in the corners!
It has made a world of difference in my classroom and I hope it can end this gluing nightmare in yours.  Even if you are one of the more than 40,000 teachers who have already downloaded this FREE product, please feel free to grab it again since I have made it more kid-friendly and (for our sakes only) prettier!

Are you busy getting ready for back to school? Ready to add a little fun and flair to your classroom Word Wall? Or maybe just help your students associate color with their sight word flashcards? I have the PERFECT freebie for you.

FREE Printable Sight Word Labels

My classroom word wall reviews letter sounds while providing students with a visual anchor for the sight words they have already learned. Here you can see the sight words displayed beside each corresponding letter on the word wall.

Creating the word cards is EASY! To prepare, I just cut 3x5" pieces of brightly colored cardstock and printed the sight words onto Avery 5163 labels. When I am ready to create the word cards, I just peel the labels and stick them onto the card stock pieces.

Learning about Shapes! {free shape poems}

Throughout the first week of school, our focus during math is introducing 2D shapes. I made some fun posters to help my students remember the names and properties of each shape {and they referred to them all year long!}
Shape Poems
  {clip art from Love Two Teach
borders from Teaching in a Small Town}

My class absolutely loved these! We learned each poem and talked about the characteristic of each shape. We even learned that Sandy Square has a booooyfriend ;)
Shape Poems
{Download the shape poems here and ignore the fact that I clearly need more ink ;) I copied 2 to a page so that they printed out smaller than a regular sheet of paper.}
After we learned about each shape, I hung the posters up in our classroom for future reference.

We also played this super fun shape game!
After we met our new friends and talked all about the shapes, we sat in a big circle {applying what we learned about circles!}. Then I walked around with a bunch of shapes in a bag and had each student pull out one shape. They told their neighbor what shape they pulled out {to practice identifying and to help their neighbor if they weren't sure} and then we played the Shape Game!
Shape Game
After everyone had a chance to stand up, we switched our shapes and played again. It was a lot of fun :)

The Teacher Cheat Sheet

Hello!  It's Reagan from Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits

Sometimes the simplest things end up being the most valuable in the classroom for me!  The teacher cheat sheet is possibly the center of all classroom happenings and it gets little to NO attention on the blog!  Time to fix that today!!

I am NOT a fan of constant documentation.  I mean we don't usually have the time to use the restroom let alone document everything happening daily, can I get an amen?

So here's a simple solution to the documentation issues we all face daily!

Each week on a cute clipboard of choice, you have a blank cheat sheet.  {pictured below on the left}

As 3,647 small things come up each day you jot down on your cheat sheet so you only have one consistent place to look for the entire week's happenings.  Keep it where you always have it handy.  Take it to recess, take it to lunch, have it when parents call asking when things happened.  It's a simple solution to the chaos!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tunstalls-Teaching-Tidbits/256937181008747?focus_composer=true&ref_type=bookmarkhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Tunstalls-Teaching-Tidbits/256937181008747?focus_composer=true&ref_type=bookmark

The red marks on the right are examples of things I may write down in a given week.

I keep it to ten rows because I never used all 24 kid's names in a week and the spaces get too small to really write what is happening if you put to many boxes on a sheet.  Ten seemed to be the perfect amount per week needed.

 I leave all of the sheets on the clipboard for the entire semester underneath so I can flip back when I get a phone call and have answers ready!  Once the pages on the bottom are really outdated,  I slide them out and place them in a file until the end of the school year.  {Just in case}

To get this cheat sheet I am going to have you head to my facebook page and use the freebie tab!  Hope it helps simplify your school year craziness!  :)
